Add your voice in support of the OHSU-Legacy merger!

Great news! OHSU has signed a binding agreement with SEIU and other unions to provide job security, equal pay for equal work, maintenance of healthcare benefits, and continuation of union contracts for Legacy workers. The OHSU-Legacy merger is under review by the Oregon Health Authority.

We want to send a message to all employers who are looking to merge and to the Oregon Health Authority (OHA): Respecting healthcare workers is step one to quality patient care!

Let’s support OHSU during this process and demand that the impact on workers should be part of the review process.

I’m hopeful that OHSU will start a new day at Legacy, one where all workers have a voice on the job, are respected, and have quality pay and benefits. It’s important that all patients at the hospital, even those who are also employees, can afford the healthcare they need.Legacy needs more staff and to improve its facilities. Investing in our workforce and buildings will allow us to see more patients and provide the care people need.OHSU agreed, without hesitation, to honor our union contract. That union contract allows healthcare workers to have a protected voice to stand up for our own needs and those of our patients.It took Legacy decades to agree to pay Legacy workers doing the same job the same pay, regardless of which side of the river they worked on. But OHSU agreed to pay parity within the first 12 months of merging, if approved. Fairness and respect for the work we do is important to me and OHSU, with their signed, written agreement with labor partners, is demonstrating their willingness to be fair and respectful to those who keep the hospitals running.OHSU’s agreement to invest $10 million each year into education trusts, like SEIU’s Education Fund, means that my coworkers and I, and thousands more like us, can gain skills and advance our careers. This allows us to grow the healthcare workforce and provides opportunities to people who have been shut out of traditional education opportunities and cannot afford to take on education debt because we are busy keeping a roof over our heads.OTHER
